Low-emission living with compost bins and renewable energy.

There’s something that’s getting a lot of attention lately, and that specific something is called ‘zero-emission homes.’ These are homes that provide all of their own heating, cooling and produce absolutely no waste whatsoever that ends up in a landfill. There’s a number of ways that these homes do this, the biggest parts being solar panels and compost bins in their kitchens or outside. These compost bins are the perfect tools to have if you’re wanting to use some of your waste for gardening soil and provide your new plants the best soil you could ever give them! There’s a number of them, but I’ll describe my favorite compost bin here in a little bit.

With zero-emissions most people avoid getting plastic bottles at all costs or if they do, they make sure that they can recycle the plastics that the get in packaging in either their city provided recycling bins or through nearby networks to take the recycling to. As I’ve mentioned previously on this blog, there’s a number of cities that now have programs to reduce waste and provide the best recycling systems. Northern Utah being one of the hundreds of areas that is really focusing on this topic in particular.

In my personal opinion, there’s one compost that takes the cake on all other compost bins and the company that is making it is Envirocycle. They have perfected the science of making a compost bin for in-home use. I’ll admit it does have a nasty smell when you first start using it, so I would suggest putting the compost bin somewhere that’s next to the kitchen but far enough way that its smell doesn’t overwhelm anyone in the kitchen.
